Sleep Will Come Upon Our Eyelids

Sleep Will Come Upon Our Eyelids

Jacob Trapp

Sleep will come upon our eyelids
and they will not ever be lifted again.
Our dreams will be dust with the lost
dust of our anonymous bones.
The soil that bred us will nourish others
beneath sun and moon and indifferent stars
for no one knows how many ages to come.

This poem was found among the papers of Rev. Jacob Trapp (1899-1992) upon his death.
