Chalice Lighting for Labor Day

Paul Dalzell

On this Sunday before Labor Day, we light this flame to honor all work.

Not only the work we do for pay with our hands, our backs, and our minds, that is important, yes. But also the work we do for love!

The work we do to help others stay alive, and belong instead of being outcasts.

The work we do to ensure people are paid fairly, work reasonable hours, and have quality in their lives.

The work we do caring for the young, the old, the infirm. The work we do to mentor, to educate, to advocate, and to enrich the community, the country, and the world.

We honor all the labors that support our world, and all the work we do to make this a better place.
