A Blessing for Canvassers and Callers upon Their Return

Jodi Cohen Hayashida

[This blessing can be paired with the Blessing for Canvassers and Callers as They Begin.]

It may be that
One of us was in the presence of greatness today
Strengthened someone’s resolve
Cracked somebody’s defensive shell
Or felt our own shell soften

It is more than possible that
One of us tended to somebody’s wounded spirit today
Interrupted someone’s isolation
Awakened dormant seeds of hope in a weary heart

A holy and cleansing anger sparks into life when confronted with the possibility that
One of us was afraid today
Or had our own sacredness denied
Or endured ignorance and hatred that left us feeling covered in filth

Though it is equally likely that
One of us allowed our full divinity to blaze forth today, refusing to be erased
Trusted our own strength
Found the will to lean into the discipline of persistence

As we set down this work for the day,
May we release with it all that has wounded us
Keeping close only what has fed and enlivened our spirit
Strengthened our will
Reinforced the promise of our collective power
And reminded us once again of the fundamental truth that
When we bless the world with our love, we are blessed in return.
